  1. thank you for this release. this worked for me and recognized all my ext4 partitions.
Just 2 suggestions for the next release:
    1) enable drag and drop copying
    2) change the icon of the program or improve its quality

  3. Wow, finaly ext4 explorer for Windows. It's possible just mount ext4 partition and assign it with drive letter?

    ReplyDelete
  4. sorry no. Its not a file system driver it cant do that. there is ext2ifs and ext2fsd but they did not support LVM and EXT4 last time i checked.
But i am planning on using CIFS bridge so that files can be accessed transparently but i am not sure if i have time for that.

  5. Hello, I have tried your program on my xp sp3 (italian), it works very well! Finally I can see my Ubuntu 10.04 disk !

I use it in a limited user accout (I launch it using "Run as..." administator); but on exit it gives me an error every time (application crash).

Later I'll post you the log.

    Thank you.

  6. Thanks for the input. I will look into the problem. can you tell me what error you get or create a bug report here http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=96464&atid=614865

  7. Hello, I have created the bug report

But I think I've "discovered" what is causing the problem.
If I close with "File... Exit", ok crash.
If I close with the "Close" button, no crash.
I think this could help you.

  8. Thanks your project
to put more 2 buttons "Back and next" would not be a bad idea.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I am looking into the problem.
and i am also looking into adding some new features like the back and next buttons as you mentioned.

  11. Thanks for ext4 on windows)

  12. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to do anything. Just shows empty panes. I hit "rescan system" and that doesn't seem to do anything either.

I'm trying to access an LVM partition on an external drive. Running Windows 7 64-bit.

If I run System Information, Windows shows it can see the disk. Also I can "mount" it via ext2fsd but that can't read LVM.

I would feel more comfortable if it gave me a choice of drives. I have no confidence that it's actually doing anything.

    Thanks,
    Lyle

    ReplyDelete
  13. hello Lyle. Are you running it as administrator?
can you show me your log file. it is created in same directory where the application is.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Many thanks for this program! The ability to use it as a driver would be even better, of course :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. love it...just what i needed....works great...thankyou thanyou

    ReplyDelete
  16. I can confirm the problem Lyle reported. I run here a uptodate Windows 7 64-bit with ext2explore-2.2.70-bin.zip. When I start ext2explore (with or without administrativ rights) the program can't find my ext4 formated usb stick. The log says...

  17. Good soft ! Good Job !

    I use it on a Win 7 32 bit and explore files on a Fedora 13 (lvm2 / ext4).

Can you add a warning if it sees no disk to try to run it as an Administrator ?

    ReplyDelete
  18. thanks for the support guys. I have changed some codes and it will now dispaly a messagebox if 0 disks detected (usually not running as administrator). Also it will print error code on why it failed. can someone (for those having win7 problems) test it and tell me the error code. I have also made the file/folder names sorted.
the executable for testing is ext2explore-debug.zip
    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  19. ext2explore-debug seems to work fine for me (Windows 7 32-bit). I'm waiting for the driver, but till then the first feature I think you should implement is the ability to « open » files, by saving them in a temporary folder and then opening them with the default program in Windows. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but right now if I want to listen to music that is on my ext4 partition, I have to save the files on the windows partition and then open them.)
Anyway, big thanks for this! :)

NB: even read-only support for the future driver is fine for me :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks a lot for the EXT4 support. I'm able to access my Linux drive, still when I tried to copy a very big file Ext2explore stopped the copying somewhere at 3% without giving any error message.

    The log only contains this:

    No of disks 1
    Scanning \\.\PhysicalDrive0

  21. I've tried using the debug version and when it failed I could open it up in Visual Studio. The error I got was:

Unhandled exception at 0x00a499ca in ext2explore.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x01e60000.

The disassembly of the instruction causing the trouble (00A499CA) looks like this:

    00A499C1 lea ecx,[eax*4+10h]
    00A499C8 mov edi,ebx
00A499CA rep movs byte ptr es:[edi],byte ptr [esi]
    00A499CC mov eax,dword ptr [edx]
    00A499CE mov ecx,dword ptr [eax+8]

I wonder whether there is a good way to map this back to the original source-code ... :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Tried to investigate this further, but Visual Studio complains that "No symbols are loaded for any stack frame. The source code cannot be displayed."

Unfortunately I don't have Qt installed to recompile everything from sources.

    ReplyDelete
  23. hey catalin, in order to debug you will need debug build which is like 150MB. but you can compile it using qt. QT open source version is freely available.
I am looking into the problem and try to fix it.

@Niavlys. Lets see what i can do. I am willing to write an IFS driver but i am very new to Windows Kernel Programming. In the other hand porting FUSE is also another option.

  24. Hey guys, I would like to ask about files larger than 1.35 gigs. It seems that copying to the windows partition from an ext4 partition works but in my case in a 2gigs file only the first 1.35 gigs are copied...

Is it normal? Do I have to do something in order for it to work better?
    thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  25. anilikos, i have tested the application for upto 5 gigs also checked the MD5 sums. it was ok. So it is supposed to work but there might be some bugs. Does it happen to all large files? try that with another file with similar size.
    thanks

    ReplyDelete
  26. How foolish of me reporting before even trying another file!
    You were right!
    Thanks!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thank you for sharing! It isn't very polished but it does what it is supposed to do, it's free and it's based on the excellent Qt toolkit so it looks great too.
Since there isn't a filesystem driver this is the next best thing and you have my thanks for sharing.

  28. I just tryed it on a computer that has both normal and LVM2 partitions and only the normal partitions is showed, can it be because I used a full drive for LVM? Part of the log looks like this:

Invalid End of sector markerScanning of \\.\PhysicalDrive1 failed: Scanning \\.\PhysicalDrive2

  33. Hi Manesh, thanks for the utility. However, I have an external USB hard drive formatted with ext4, and nothing shows up in the panes. The ext2explorelog.log file contains this:

  39. Hi there. Program works great on Windows 7 x64, except that it can't access the ONE folder in my Ubuntu 10.10 install that I want to access. It's the folder where all my torrents download to, so it's huge (about 160 gigs). I'm not sure if that's the problem. I can explore every other folder I've tried, but when I double click this particular folder, nothing happens. No files show up and no expansion arrow appears next to the folder name. :(

    1.
I downloaded version 2.2.71 but when I go to "About", it still shows 2.1. Is there wrong file linked?
    2. Is there any way to select more files to copy?

I am running Windows 7, and when I try to copy a large file (I've tried different sizes - starting with 500MB all the way to 6000MB) from an Ubuntu 10.10 ext4 partition, it copies just the first part of the file (that differs between files, too; I haven't been able to link copied file sizes and real file sizes).

  58. The next thing to think about is just how much pressure you're looking for the gay sizegenetics therapist to use on you. Different practitioners have different styles when they perform an erotic gay sizegenetics. You will need to communicate with your therapist so construct y will know exactly the best after all in an erotic gay sizegenetics. You'll be able to ask your gay sizegenetics therapist what their style it is usually and whether or not they're now able to adapt it for ones needs and desires. Whenever you have a nice pressure level you find very enjoyable, please ensure that you mention this while you book the appointment with your sizegenetics.

    1. Forgot to mention that the last entry of the log says:

      Cannot parse LVM metadata
      Inode 53 with filesize 0

Before this statement all LVM-partitions are listed correctly ....

  73. Hello EveryOne.
I'd like to thank the author for the job accomplished.

I am programming in some languages.
So I downloaded the sources and red it.
At first, only my natives ext4 partitions were found,
which is a good beginning. But none LVM.

So i downloaded Qt suite en Qt creator and began to debug the sources.

1st : The trace did not even go into the LVM methods because
an LVM pv can be tagged LINUX during formatting instead
of LVM or probably even tagged nothing, this point must be discussed.

2st : I Wrote a real parser to parse the metadata header.
Added a treeModel class and a tree parser method into lvm.cpp

3st : there is a fault in the calculation of the offset
which must be multiplied with the bloc size of the vg.

Finally for now: All my ext4 LVM2 partition display which means the mount was done without error (i can't say well done) but only 2 (two) of them show their files.

    Probably a format problem.
I registered me as contributer for the code.
I'm going on and will propose a patch when i'll
have resolved the non displayed files.
I'll contact the author to see what could be done.
I appreciate the design and this project made me discover Qt and return to C++.
    Very good job.

I was toying with getting a midriff pack, yet to me the sling just bodes well in all angling applications; particularly, on the grounds that it doesn't ride sufficiently low on the body to get wet when you are swim angling in profound water. www.researchpapertown.com
